SWAP (PEER) GROUPS
SHARE WITH A PEER

As a retail store owner, you must make all the decisions about your business, from hiring and advertising to buying, and everything in between. It is not easy being solely responsible for the success of your company. But who can you turn to? Now there is an excellent way for you to get the support and information you need to be a more successful and more profitable retailer.

Join one of the 4 levels of peer groups we offer. We call our groups SWAP Groups (Share With A Peer) since that is what they are about. Sharing among all the group members helps each become better and more profitable retailers.

For all groups, the retailers must be similar but in non-competing areas to allow for a free exchange of information. This is critical to the success of the groups. Every member must also sign a confidentiality agreement so members can be assured their numbers are safe.

The four levels are:

1. SWAP Group - 2-day meeting every 6 months

The SWAP Group is a group of 6-10 retailers who meet twice a year, in the spring and fall, to share their data and information to help each other become better and more profitable retailers. During the meeting we review merchandising data, financial data, advertising and have an open question and answer session. Each meeting is held at a different retailer’s location and part of the time is spent critiquing the host store's operation and giving valuable suggestions for improvement. The host retailer is in charge of arranging the hotel and meeting rooms and food.

2. Mini SWAP Group - 1 day meeting every 6 months, either right before or right after a market that all the group members attend

The Mini SWAP Group is also a group of 6-10 retailers who meet twice a year, in the spring and fall, to share their data and information to help each other become better and more profitable retailers. To help reduce travel costs this group meets at a market, either the day before or the day after. Obviously, the market must be one that all the members attend. During the meeting we review merchandising data, financial data, advertising and have an open question and answer session. Since this group meets in conjunction with a market, and is just a one-day meeting, costs are lower.

3. SWAP Retail Teleconference Group (Tele-SWAP) - Monthly one-hour teleconference

The Tele-SWAP Groups are monthly, one-hour teleconference calls. Each month there is a one hour conference call for the group. Each group has 6-8 members. During the call each member asks a question or presents a problem to the group and gets input from all the other members.

4. SWAP Email Group (E-SWAP) - Sharing information and insight via email

Each month, a question is collected from each member of the group, then the questions are emailed to the group in a survey format. Each group member can then record his opinion, experience or insight to share with other group members.
